This week we looked at how people in other parts of the world are reacting to a historic event in the U.S. Now it's our turn to react to a world event. Do a little research on an event that is taking place outside of the U.S. Look at more than one source of information. Then, comment on that event and include links to the pages where you got the information. In your comment, please pose some key questions about the event. See the course website for grading criteria. For example:
According to globalissues.org, there is conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The reasons for the conflict are many and complex. Like many conflicts, they involve politics and competition over resources. The BBC reports that a four-year war began in 1998. A peace agreement was signed in 2002. In August of 2008, rebel forces began attacking Congolese government troops again. A cease-fire was signed in late October, but it has not stopped the violence completely. Meanwhile, United Nations peacekeeping forces are currently stationed in the area to protect civilians. Lately, they too have come under attack and now some people are calling for increased peacekeeping forces in the area (Star Tribune). Will this do the job of protecting citizens or will more peacekeeping forces be unable to do their job until the military conflict is resolved? Is it fair to make civilians wait for safety when the end of the conflict is not in sight? Is it fair to subject the peacekeeping forces to high-risk violence?

This event happened in Berlin. A man who previously had AIDS for a decade has been cured. He had a Bone Marrow transplant and 20 months later they couldn't find the virus. I really want to know if this is something that might be a fluke or a real cure to aids. Every year we spend millions of dollars trying to find a cure. And then they did a transplant that was supposed to be for Leukemia. How does that happen?
Taiwan and China Shake Hands:
China and Taiwan representative met in Taipei for the first time in 60 years. They then made some trade deals, which became an historical event for China and Taiwan.
Q: Why now of all time to meet?
Why does China hate Taiwan?

In China, many business is laying off people due to the fact that there is no one there to help out in the society. The governor of southern Guangdong Province said that "Order had fallen sharply this year" (BBC News). As the ecomonic is falling down, mostly migrant workers are left without a jobs. Government is now trying to work on a base line to help not to prevent any destruction to their ecomonic , even through they have to lossen some credit.

In Santiago, Chile the Chilean government failed to tell 512 people that they have AIDS. The health services did not tell the people that they have tested positive for HIV and tests show that they are carrying the AIDS virus.
Alvaro Erazo is the Health Minsiter and he showed the numbers to congress so he can resign from his position. The government now is trying to find these people who have it and tell them there condition.

They laided these bodies along the check point on the main road it was ment to be a warning to government troops who they faught the night before.

Halloween In Japan
This is the first time celebrating halloween like in America. They are always dressing up but this is the first time they are collecting candy. Some people had a good time experiencing it.
Q; How come they never collected candies in the previous years?
Q; Why did they choose this year to starting collecting candies?
Who is going to help people in Chile now? People in Chile didn't know that they were HIV positive. That 1,700 people didn't know that they were carrying AIDS virus and that 512 people were not told that they were tested for HIV. So now they are looking for people that live in Chile that have HIV/AIDS to save the country. So my question is why did the health service failed to tell those people they had HIV positive? Why are thee people in Chile looking for people with HIV, why now not before?

Recently in British Columbia, Canada, a severed foot washed up on the shore of Westham Island. Which is just south of Vancouver. It is the sixth foot found in the last 15 months. All were found inside of running shoes.
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/us_and_americas/article4163329.ece
None of the detatched feet have shoun any evidence such as tool marks of forced removal have been found on any of the feet.
Who do the feet belong to?
How are they being detatched and why?
Is this the work of a killer or nature?

http://www.cbc.ca/world/story/2008/11/13/fritzl-charges.html?ref=rss
My event happened in Vienna, Austria. An Austrian man by the name of Josef Fritzl was accused of imprisoning his daughter for 24 years. Among imprisonment he was accused of rape, incest, slavery, and murder. Josef's daughter Elisabeth was 12 when this happened. Now at the age of 42 she is just seeing daylight for the first time after being locked up in a windowless cellar for 24 years. During that time Josef raped and then fathered Elisabeth's seven children. One of the offspring may have survived if Josef would have seeked medical treatment, but instead he threw the body into an incinerator. Detectives now say this may all be due to a Mental Disorder Josef had. Josef has not yet been charged but is in pretrial detention while his family is receiving psychiatric care and counselling.
Where were other family members at this time?
Where was the mother of Elisabeth? (Josef's wife or partner)
Why didn't suspicious neighbors ever contact police?
What could Josef be sentenced to?

As a leader people will look at you and expect you to have an answer for everything. In this case Pakistan wants Obama to deal with the war that Bush had started. ALso India wants Obama to deal with the Nuclear agreement signed by Bush.
Questions:
Will Obama be able to keep his promise that he will bring our men home from war?
How will he help them develope provinces?
What is he willing to scarifice through this event?

The Global Finance Crisis of 2008 has reported the devastating impacts of the U.S. economic recession. It has begun a harmful domino-affect on the world’s economy. Globally, numerous countries have seen a significant decline in profits and investments, which have deteriorated their once-stabled economy. In China, the Premier initiated "$586bn stimulus package to avoid the economy slowing." (BBC) Though some Asian countries have not felt as much of a punch of the affects yet, they want reform. China wants to take measures to lessen the blow of the horrid Global, economic crisis. “We want the U.S. to give up its veto power at the International Monetary Fund and European countries to give up some more of their voting rights in order to make room for emerging and developing countries.” (Global Issues – Asia and the Financial Crisis)
Some may perceive China’s request to be a threat to the dominating U.S. power, but we have to examine the current impacts of the Global disaster on China’s economy and conclude if their request should be the major priority to set forth at this time. The BBC News states that China is also in an economic recession. The economy is declining due to the decrease in exports and investments."Figure fell to just 9% in the third quarter of this year." (BBC) The results of the economic recession are devastating; numerous factories in the southern Guangdong Province are declining in profits or are closed. The unemployment percentage is on the rise. China has to stabilize their country before they do anything else.
Questions:
Will China and developing countries step up to the plate and try to gain more influences on global-economic policies?
How are other countries dealing with the global economic crisis?
Will the countries unite to negotiate solutions for this disastrous dilemma?

Navy shoots pirate suspects dead:
They UK Royal Navy stopped a pirate attack on a Danish ship, apparently killing 2 pirates. (Pirates do exist! They are enough of a problem for the royal navy to take them on and get in the news for that matter.) A Yemeni-flagged ship attacked a Danish cargo ship more than once, the second time, they were caught. The crew is believed to be Somalian however. The possibility of a scuffle between the pirates themselves is also possible. The pirates were equipped with automatic weapons and RPGs (and not role-playing games either)
